Some of the new brushless electric motor radio controlled boats are really fast and can be faster than some gas powered boats. As a rule however, gas and nitro radio controlled boats tend to be faster.

Typically, gas (or nitro) radio controlled boats will be faster. Electric radio controlled boats go anywhere from 15 mph up to around 25 mph for the fastest. Nitro boats can beat that by about 10 mph..reaching speeds of 35 mph or so.
The brushless electric motors are faster than the brushed motors, and are reaching speeds that match some of the nitros. Keep in mind..the brushless are more expensive initially, but there is less upkeep and maintenance since you don't have to replace the brushes. These boats run cooler as well…which helps in their performance!

BTW, I checked out the YouTube videos on ' fast rc boats.'..the fastest I saw was about 60 mph ..which is a total extreme speed…not what you will find in a hobby rc boat. The 200 mph claim is insane!! Don't expect it, and don't be disappointed in a 'slower' speed..who could ever see a boat going 200 mph anyway…and control it? Good luck there!!

actually it depends on how much you want to spend and what day of the week it is. electric and gas boats are both pushing 200 mph now. just do a search for fast rc boat on youtube and see for your self. in my opinion it is easier to go faster with the electric boats but everyday the two types over take each other as fastest. for a laugh do a search for brushless, Mini Mono Gecko on youtube for a micro electric so fast it has a hard time staying in the water.
